Its international reputation for quality and service is maintained by an
army of specialists who vet collections prior to accepting them and selling
them. These specialists are also on hand to talk to visitors during
pre-auction browsing, providing an excellent way to learn more about the
quality of objects and their value in today’s marketplace, says Barnhart.
She adds that 98% of their auctions are also open to the public and
encourages anyone interested to join in the thrill of a live auction. “It’s
a little like gambling, only more fun.”
Meanwhile, Christie’s website CHRISTIES offers plenty of information
about collections and the fine art of buying and selling. If you cannot
visit a showroom then try browsing and bidding online, but be careful
when you do--prices can range from a few hundred dollars to mega-
mega millions.
